
Getting Your Krones Contiform Heating Just Right
Keeping the oven in a Krones Contiform blow molder running smoothly is always a bit of a balancing act. You want enough heat to get the job done, but you don’t want to burn through your bulbs every other week. And let’s be honest: OEM parts can be a nightmare for your budget. You need something that fits perfectly and keeps those preforms at the right temperature without costing a fortune.
How the Heat Actually Works
These radiators use halogen-filled quartz tubes to blast shortwave infrared radiation. It sounds fancy, but it’s basically about getting that PET preform up to its glass transition temperature as fast as possible. High-wattage tubes are the secret to keeping your cycle times low. But here’s the catch: your power supply has to be rock solid. If you’ve got voltage spikes jumping around, you’re just asking for the filaments to snap.
The Fit and Feel
We designed our replacement bulbs with standard R7s or Sk15 connectors. This means they just slide right into your existing sockets. No hacking, no rigging, no headaches. We also use a heavy-wall quartz envelope. Why? Because when things get scorching hot, cheap glass bows. Ours stays straight. Some of our versions even have a special coating that pushes the heat toward the body of the preform, leaving the neck alone.
Real Talk for the Shop Floor
Swapping these out is easy, but there’s one rule you can’t ignore:don’t touch the glass with your bare hands. The oils from your skin create hot spots on the quartz, and that’s a fast track to a dead bulb. Grab some alcohol and a clean cloth and wipe them down before you wire them up. One last thing. If you’re pushing your bulbs to their max wattage, you’re putting more stress on your cooling fans. If you crank up the power, keep an eye on your airflow. If the oven can’t breathe, the bulbs will die early and your preforms might overheat. As long as your cooling system is up to the task, these will perform exactly like the originals—just without the OEM price tag.
